What Decides the Cost of Building an App in Pakistan
By the AlimcoSoft team, Islamabad
Ask five companies in Pakistan to price the same app and you may get five very different numbers. That is usually because each one is pricing a different app in its head. Any price list published without seeing your requirements is a guess, so we have not included one here.
This guide explains what actually moves the price, so you can compare quotes properly and decide where to spend.
Features are the biggest factor
Every feature adds design, development and testing. Logins, profiles and simple content are usually straightforward. These tend to add much more work:
- Payments, including JazzCash, Easypaisa or card gateways
- Real-time chat and live tracking
- Maps and location search
- Video and file uploads
- AI features
- Admin panels and reports
- Roles for different types of users
iOS, Android or both
Building a separate native app for each platform costs more than building one shared app. Cross-platform tools such as React Native and Flutter let one codebase serve both, which suits most business apps. Native development is still worth it for apps that lean heavily on device hardware or need top graphics performance.
Many apps in Pakistan see most of their users on Android, so check where your own customers are before you pay for both at launch.
The backend you do not see
Most of an app's logic often lives on a server: user accounts, orders, notifications and the admin panel. A quote that looks cheap may include only the screens. Ask directly what backend is included, and who pays for hosting after launch.
Design
A custom design, tested with real users, takes longer than a template. For an app that competes on experience, this is usually money well spent. For an internal tool, a clean template is often enough.
Integrations with other systems
Connecting to payment gateways, SMS providers, courier companies, ERP systems or your existing database adds work. The effort depends on how good the other system's documentation is, which a developer can only tell you after looking at it.
Who is building it
Senior developers cost more per hour and usually make fewer expensive mistakes. A quote far below the others often means junior staff, a template with your logo on it, or testing that has been left out.
Costs after launch
Budget for more than the build. Plan for server hosting, third-party services, store developer accounts, SMS or map usage, bug fixes and updates for new iOS and Android versions.
How to get a quote you can compare
Write down what users can do, screen by screen, and mark each feature as must-have or later. Send the same document to every company and ask each to list what is included and what is not.
The surest way to reduce the cost is to launch a smaller first version. Build the one flow that matters, get real users on it, and let what you learn decide what comes next.
